Course Overview
The Diploma of Training Design and Development will provide professional development to experienced practitioners seeking more specialised knowledge and skills.
This qualification reflects the roles of training developers and instructional designers who are responsible for analysing training needs and designing training solutions and products to meet workplace capability requirements, and evaluating the effectiveness of training programs. They may also have a role in designing and developing assessment tools, learning resources and strategies: providing guidance, advice and promoting innovative practices to trainers and assessors; student support areas such as facilitating e-learning and the development of adult language, literacy and numeracy skills.as well as the sustainability of learning programs and incorporating best practice in training and assessment into training programs and products.

There are no prerequisite requirements for individual units of competency.
Pathways
Into the qualification
Preferred pathways for candidates considering this qualification include:
- After achieving the TAE40110 (or TAE40116) Certificate IV in Training and Assessment and vocational experience in training and assessment roles within a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) or similar organisation where the focus has been on competency based training,
or
- After achieving another relevant qualification and vocational experience in training and assessment roles within an RTO or similar organisation where the focus has been on competency based training and assessment,
or
- After demonstrating extensive vocational experience in training and assessment roles within am RTO or similar organisation where the focus has been on competency based training and assessment.
From the qualification
Those completing this qualification could consider higher qualifications in this Training Package, the Training Package area of their vocational competence, or in the higher education sector.
Study Requirements
To successfully achieve the qualification Diploma of Training Design and Development ( TAE50216 ) you are required to complete a total of 10 units, 5 core unit/s of study and 5 elective unit/s.

TAEASS502 - Design and develop assessment tools
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to design and to develop assessment tools used to guide the collection of quality evidence, including their application in formative, summative and recognition of prior learning (RPL) assessment.
TAEDES501 - Design and develop learning strategies
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to design, develop and review learning strategies.
TAEDES502 - Design and develop learning resources
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to design, and develop resources to support the learning process.
TAEDES505 - Evaluate a training program
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to evaluate a training program, by measuring the effectiveness of training in meeting workforce performance needs and capability requirements.
TAETAS501 - Undertake organisational training needs analysis
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to undertake a training needs analysis (TNA) to identify the training and assessment needs of an organisation.

TAEDEL501 - Facilitate E-Learning
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to establish, facilitate, monitor and review e-learning delivered via electronic media.
TAELLN411 - Address adult language, literacy and numeracy skills
This unit describes the skills and knowledge a vocational trainer or assessor requires to identify language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) skill requirements of training and the work environment, and to use resources and strategies that meet the needs of the learner group.
TAELLN501 - Support the development of adult language, literacy and numeracy skills
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to support adult learners to extend their language, literacy and numeracy skills within a workplace or community context. It requires a sound knowledge of the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF) and skills to extend own practice, and the practice of others.
TAESUS501 - Analyse and apply sustainablity skills to learning programs
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to identify explicit, and embedded, sustainability skills within training packages and accredited courses, document, and apply requirements to learning programs and resources associated with the development of competence.
TAESUS502 - Identify and apply current sustainability education principles and practice to learning programs
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to research, identify, evaluate and apply current sustainability education principles, and practice, to learning and teaching programs.

Are there any Prerequisites?
Sufficient literacy and numeracy skills to complete the course. Access to an internet connection and computer.

Training delivery and assessment is by facilitators who are experienced Training and Assessment practitioners, ensuring a balance between theoretical knowledge and real-world application
Can I apply for Recognition of Prior Learning or just do the assessments?
The assessment only or recognition of prior learning pathway could be appropriate if you’ve got on-the-job experience, want recognition for prior learning or current competencies, you may have overseas qualifications, you may be a migrant with an established work history, you may be returning to the workplace, or you may be disabled or injured and require a change in career.
Can I apply for Credit Transfers?
Students with appropriate prior tertiary studies that satisfy part of the academic requirements of this course may be granted ‘credit’ and/or entry to the course with ‘advanced standing’. You Study policies apply and applicants are assessed on a case-by-case basis.
