Apprentice and trainee numbers continue to decline
The latest release of apprentice and trainee data released by NCVER show there were 295 300 people in apprenticeships or traineeships at the end of September 2015, a decrease of 13.7% compared with the same time the previous year. Comparing data for the September 2015 quarter with same quarter in 2014:
• Commencements decreased 19.3% to 36 000
• Completions decreased overall by 6.0% to 27 600, but trade completions increased by 18.1% to 11 800
• Cancellations and withdrawals decreased by 10.7% to 24 000.
